Mthunzi Bridgeman Namba is a highly respected South African gospel singer, songwriter, producer, and pastor, best known for his deep, soulful worship and lasting impact on gospel music. Born and raised in KwaMashu, Durban, Namba discovered his passion for music early in life. Growing up in a Christian home, he was greatly influenced by church music and began singing in choirs while learning piano from his older brother. His love for worship shaped his purpose, inspiring him to pursue music both spiritually and professionally.
After studying at the Durban University of Technology, Namba co-founded the world-renowned Joyous Celebration ensemble alongside Jabu Hlongwane and Lindelani Mkhize in the mid-1990s. Together, they transformed the South African gospel landscape, producing some of the most celebrated gospel performances in the country’s history.
Namba later established a successful solo career with albums such as Mercy – Live in Durban, Let It Rain, Send Your Glory, The Collection, and Praise the Lord – Collection Vol. 1. His music, sung in English, Zulu, and Sotho, combines rich harmonies with messages of faith, healing, mercy, and spiritual renewal.
Beyond music, Mthunzi Namba is a pastor and mentor to many aspiring artists. In 2021, he launched "The Fellowship with Mthunzi Namba" a worship collective uniting believers through praise and ministry. His outstanding contribution to gospel music earned him the "eThekwini Living Legend Award" among other recognitions.
Married to Thabile Namba and blessed with two daughters, Asanda and Awethu, he continues to balance faith, family, and ministry. Through his powerful performances and unshakable devotion to God, Mthunzi Namba remains one of South Africa’s most beloved and influential gospel voices, inspiring countless lives through the message of worship and grace.
